Holocrinee gland, which releases an oily substance (sebum) onto the skin. Sebaceous glands are located in the upper part of the leather skin (stratum superficiale dermidis) and are unevenly distributed throughout the body. The soles of the feet and palms of the hands do not have sebaceous glands.

Sebum also protects against skin diseases, pathogens and chemicals.

Most of the sebaceous glands are located on the epithelium of the hair follicles. That's why they're called hair follicle glands.

The remaining part (so-called free sebaceous glands) is mainly located in the nostrils, the lips and in the area of the genitals. The sebum keeps the hair and the top layer of the skin, the stratum corneum, supple.
