Polarity refers to the formation of separate charge centers caused by the shifting of charges into atomic groups, which cause an atomic group to no longer be electrically neutral. Polar substances can be easily dissolved in water. An example of polar substances are salts, which are composed of positively (cations) and negatively (anions) charged ions.
