The normal intraocular pressure is between 10 and 21 mm Hg, with fluctuations of up to 5 mm Hg being considered physiological. Older people usually have a slightly higher intraocular pressure than younger people.

The highest values usually occur at night or in the early morning hours.

Glaucoma is one of the most common causes of blindness worldwide.
