Parenchyma is the tissue specific to a particular organ that can functionally perform the organ-typical tasks. It is distinguished from connective and supporting tissue, which is responsible for the shape of the organs and mutual support. So we speak of parenchyma when we mean the tissues of e.g. glandular epithelium, muscle fibres, nerve cells, spermatozoa as well as the corresponding structures of the so-called parenchymatous organs such as liver, spleen, kidney, pancreas, adrenal glands, gonads, etc..

Es wird von Binde- und Stützgewebe unterschieden, das für die Form der Organe und den gegenseitigen Halt zuständig ist. Wir sprechen also vom Parenchym, wenn wir die Gewebe von z.B. Drüsenepithel, Muskelfasern, Nervenzellen, Samenkanälchen sowie den entsprechenden Strukturen der sogenannten parenchymatösen Organe wie Leber, Milz, Niere, Pankreas, Nebennieren, Gonaden, etc. meinen.
