A prostate gland in the area of the anus that supports the function of the sperms. It produces a secret that alkalizes the sperm to ensure survival in the acid vagina and supports the sperm's movement activity.

The prostate is a firm, round body the size of a chestnut, located just below the bladder. Both the urethra and the ejaculation ducts pass through them. The prostate constantly produces a secretion that is partly excreted with the urine. However, it forms most of the seminal fluid.

In some older men, the prostate increases in size and causes pressure on the part of the urethra it encloses; this can lead to difficulty urinating. In this case, surgical removal of parts of the prostate may be necessary.
