Albumins belong to the group of globular proteins. In the human organism, albumin is mainly responsible for maintaining colloidal osmotic pressure. A healthy average person (70 kg) has 250-320 g albumin. 40 % of it is dissolved in blood plasma, 60 % in tissue. Besides the albumins there are other proteins, the globulins in the blood. Although albumins are the smaller protein type of the two plasma proteins, they are quantitatively in the majority with 60 % (3.5-4.5 g/dl), globulins make up only 40 %.
