Gastric Juice

The gastric juice is a clear and aqueous solution which contains gastric acid (about 0.5% hydrochloric acid on an empty stomach), mucus, mucus, [ ] and [ ]. (protects the mucous membrane of the stomach from hydrochloric acid), the protein-splitting enzyme pepsin and the intrinsic factor (a protein responsible for the absorption of vitamin B12 in the intestine). 2 to 3 litres of gastric juice are produced daily.

Die Magensäure weist einen pH-Wert von etwa 1–1,5 (nüchtern) bis 2–4 (voll) auf. Sie dient dem Aufschluss der Nahrung, insbesondere der hydrolytischen Spaltung von Proteinen in Polypeptide) und hat eine bakterizide Wirkung.
