Osteomalacia

Osteomalacia is a mineralization disorder of the bones in adulthood in which bone softening occurs - usually as a result of insufficient vitamin D supply - with corresponding skeletal alterations. In contrast to osteoporosis, there is only a decrease in the mineral content here, not in the entire bone matrix. Important: If the disease occurs during growth, we speak of rickets.
