Transport Function Respiration
The red blood cells bind the oxygen (O2 ) that is absorbed by the external respiration (lung respiration) and transport it to the tissues. The carbon dioxide (CO2 ) from the tissues is transported in the blood in the form of hydrogen carbonate (HCO3- ). The carbon dioxide is released into the pulmonary alveoli in the lungs and breathed out.
