Vital Capacity

Breathing volume that the lungs can absorb at maximum after complete exhalation. The lung cannot be completely emptied. There remains a so-called residual volume, which together with the air in the airways makes up about 1.5 litres.
All values are approximate, since the lungs of a large person with a corresponding chest can make up a much higher volume than those of another adult who is smaller and narrower.
