Nucleus

A cell nucleus is a component of the eukaryotic cell that is located in the cell or cytoplasm and is usually round in shape.

Vom Zellplasma ist er durch eine Doppelmembran, die Kernhülle, abgegrenzt. In ihm liegt das Erbgut der Zelle in Form von Desoxyribonukleinsäure (DNA) vor.

Der Zellkern kann als Informations- und Steuerzentrum der Zelle verstanden werden.
