Movement disorders of the bowel can result in constipation and lead to chronic bowel disease.
All other measures, especially dietary ones, should be fully exhausted first. In the case of laxatives, preparations containing swelling or bulking agents should be used first.
The herbal laxatives of this principle of action also cause water and salt losses. In the process, the loss of potassium again produces intestinal sluggishness. Very quickly, dependence on laxatives occurs, resulting in long-term damage to the intestinal mucosa.
