Prostate

A prostate gland in the area of the anus that supports the function of the sperms. It produces a secret that alkalizes the sperm to ensure survival in the acid vagina and supports the sperm's movement activity.

The prostate is a firm, round body the size of a chestnut, located just below the bladder. Both the urethra and the ejaculation ducts pass through them. The prostate constantly produces a secretion that is partly excreted with the urine. However, it forms most of the seminal fluid.

Bei manchen älteren Männern vergrößert sich die Prostata und verursacht einen Druck auf den Teil der Harnröhre, den sie umschließt; das kann zu Schwierigkeiten beim Wasserlassen führen. In diesem Fall kann eine chirurgische Entfernung von Teilen der Prostata notwendig werden.
