Sebaceous Gland

Holocrinee gland, which releases an oily substance (sebum) onto the skin. Sebaceous glands are located in the upper part of the leather skin (stratum superficiale dermidis) and are unevenly distributed throughout the body. The soles of the feet and palms of the hands do not have sebaceous glands.

Sebum also protects against skin diseases, pathogens and chemicals.

Most of the sebaceous glands are located on the epithelium of the hair follicles. That's why they're called hair follicle glands.

Der restliche Teil (sogenannte freie Talgdrüsen) befinden sich vornehmlich in den Nasenöffnungen, den Lippen und im Bereich der Genitalien. Der Talg (lat. Sebum) hält das Haar und die oberste Schicht der Haut, die Hornschicht (Stratum corneum), geschmeidig.
