Translations:Rektale Applikation/1/en

The rectal application is performed via the anus using suppositories (suppositories). The advantage lies in the circumvention of the portal vein circulation, whereby the drugs are not metabolized during the first circulation via the liver - no first-pass effect. The disadvantage of rectal delivery is the large individual spread of the absorbed drug quantity (very difficult to control). That's why we shouldn't give medications as suppositories where exact dosage is important.
