Two-pointed valve of the heart between left atrium and left ventricle. It prevents the blood from flowing back into the left atrium. Its shape resembles a bishop's cap, it consists of two leaflets, hence the name.

The flap consists of 2 leaflets (or cusps), the front and the rear leaflet. These are attached by tendon threads (Chordae tendineae) to the two papillary muscles in the chamber. The contraction of the papillary muscles tensions the leaflets in the systole, preventing the leaflets from penetrating the atria.
