Conjunctiva

Epithelial layer that covers and protects the cornea of the eye. The conjunctiva allows an almost friction-free movement of the eyeball in all directions of movement.

Die Konjunktiva enthält Zellen und Drüsen, die für die Tränenflüssigkeit, die die Hornhaut wie ein Film überzieht, bedeutsam sind. Bereits während der ersten Lebensjahre wandern Lymphozyten in die Bindehaut, wo sie wichtige Abwehrfunktion erfüllen.
