Spinalioma

The spinalioma is a malignant tumor that originates from the sting cell layer of the skin (stratum spinosum). The cancer is therefore also called prickle cell carcinoma.

A spinalioma is caused by chronic skin damage, especially in elderly, light-skinned people who are constantly exposed to UVB sunlight. Because the spinalioma is superficially located on the skin, the tumor could be detected early. However, the transition from chronic previous damage to cancer often takes place unnoticed.

Spinaliome können sehr unterschiedlich aussehen. Die Tumoren sind in der Lage, Tochtergeschwüre (Metastasen) in nahe gelegenen Lymphknoten sowie auch in fernen Körperregionen zu bilden. Wichtig ist die frühzeitige Erkennung und Behandlung des Spinalioms. Wenn möglich, wird der Tumor vollständig operativ entfernt.
