They are mostly low-molecular amino acids, amines or esters that can be synthesized in the nerve endings, but can also be higher-molecular peptides that must be formed in the nerve cell nucleus. The release of the neurotransmitters, mostly from the nerve endings, is induced by the ion fluxes, in particular by the calcium influx, which occurs with the arrival of the excitation depolarization at the nerve end.
