ABCD Rule

The ABCDE rule applies to the assessment of a malignant melanoma. The first letters of the evaluation criteria stand for

• Asymmetry - asymmetric, for example not round or oval *Begrenzung - irregular or blurred *C'olour (colour) - pigmentation of varying intensity, multicolour *Durchmesser - larger than 5 mm - today dynamic (progression): reference to growth and time *Erhabenheit bzw. development - new and developed in a short time on otherwise flat ground

Changes in the characteristics of the skin patch indicate malignancy.
