Under one Anticoagulation (Greek. anti 'against' and lat. coagulatio 'agglomeration') is a drug that reduces normal blood clotting. The drug used is called anticoagulant ('anticoagulant, plural: anticoagulants, obsolete: anticoagulants). A distinction is made between direct anticoagulants, which directly inhibit coagulation with a Coagulation factor, and indirect anticoagulants, which require a cofactor to inhibit coagulation or inhibit the synthesis of coagulation factors.
