Apocrine secretion means that in the secretion of a gland also parts of the own cytoplasm are released. Vesicles with surrounding apical cytoplasm are tied off from the glandular cell by a part of the cell membrane.
The apocrine glands are located on the eyelid, outer auditory canal, armpit, pubic region, labia majora and scrotum. Their production does not begin until puberty.
