Respiration

"Outer respiration.

The "external respiration" is the gas exchange between organism and environment. This includes the absorption of oxygen in the lungs, the transport on the bloodstream to the cells and the release of oxygen atoms into the tissue. In the tissue, carbon dioxide is formed within the framework of "inner respiration". Its reverse route through the blood to the lungs is also part of external respiration.

Inner respiration comprises the biochemical process of cellular respiration, in which organic compounds are converted into low-energy substances for the production of energy. Internal respiration is often referred to as cellular respiration.
