Beta-adrenergic receptor, specific cellular binding site for adrenaline and noradrenaline, and to a lesser extent for other catecholamines. Two main subtypes are distinguished: the beta1 receptor, mainly in noradrenerg innervated organs and in the CNS, especially in the heart, where positive chronotropic, inotropic, dromotropic and bathmotropic effects are mediated, and in the kidney, where renin is released, the beta2 receptor, mainly in the smooth muscles of the blood vessels and bronchi, via which their dilatation is triggered.
