Biopsy

Technical term for the removal and examination of tissue from a living organism. The biopsy tissue - the bioptate - is examined under the microscope by a pathologist. From the findings of a biopsy, some statements can be made about pathological changes in the fine tissue structure of the examined tissue. This is particularly important when determining whether an ulcer is malignant or benign.
