Epiglottis

The pathogen is usually the bacterium Haemophilus influenzae. Epiglottitis should not be confused with another disease in the vicinity of the epiglottis, the pseudo Krupp. This is a harmless viral infection. A real Krupp is the synonym for Diphterie, triggered by the bacteria Corynebacterium diphteriae (More information about the bacteria in the module Microbiology).
