Carbohydrates

Widely used group of substances in living organisms with the general molecular formula Cn (H2O)n . According to the number of carbon atoms they are called trioses, tetroses, pentoses, hexoses etc., according to the presence of an aldehyde or keto group they are called aldoses or ketoses, according to the number of such basic building blocks they are called mono-, di-, oligo- or polysaccharides.
