Corticalis and Cancellous Bone

The corticalis or compacta is the outer layer of a bone consisting of a solid structure. In contrast, cancellous bone consists of trabeculae, which form the inner structure of the bone. Although the cancellous bone is lightly built, its construction supports the main load directions within the bone structure in particular.
