Medium corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH):
The mean haemoglobin content of a single erythrocyte is approximately 30 pg (one picogram is one billionth of a gram (1/1,000,000,000,000,000 grams).
Blood diseases with reduced MCH are referred to as hypochromic (e.g. iron deficiency), those with increased MCH as hyperchromic anemia (e.g. vitamin B12 and folic acid deficiency).
