The mean value is generally referred to as the average. From a mathematical point of view, there are different types of mean values, each of which has its authorization in certain application scenarios: Arithmetic mean and geometric mean. The arithmetic mean is calculated by adding all values and then dividing the sum by the number of values. The geometric mean is required for averaging factors - e.g. the average rate of increase of a share price. It is calculated as the nth root from the product of all factors.
