Oxidation

Oxidation = chemical reaction in which the substance to be oxidized releases electrons. An example of oxidation is the reaction of metals with oxygen, rusting. The oxygen is reduced by absorbing the electrons of the metal. The totality of the reactions is then called the redox reaction.
