Myenteric Plexus

The plexus myentericus or Auerbach plexus is a network of nerve cells and fibers located between the muscle layers of the intestinal wall. It is a part of the enteric nervous system (ENS) and thus in turn a part of the vegetative nervous system of man. It unconsciously controls the motility and peristalsis of the intestine, but its function can be controlled by sympathetic and parasympathetic influences can be changed.
