Pregnancy category: Pre- and postnatal drug treatment represents a serious problem for a therapist and must be carried out with the greatest care and after thorough critical examination. Many drugs pass through the placenta and/or are excreted through breast milk. Since spring 2003, information on the use of drugs during pregnancy has been described in detail in the drug information and no longer with the aid of pregnancy categories. In Swissmedic Journal 2/2003 you will find information on the content of the sections ″Schwangerschaft and Stillzeit″ from 2003 onwards. At this stage, some drug information containing references to a pregnancy category is still published, due to the fact that drug information is revised and reviewed every 5 years.
