Toxic shock syndrome (syn.: TSS, tampon disease) is a severe circulatory and organ failure that occurs very rarely (1 case per 200,000 inhabitants per year) [1], caused by bacterial toxins. Mostly they originate from the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus, more rarely from Streptococcus (Streptococcal induced toxic shock syndrome).
