Changed Cell Functions

Tumour cells usually have altered cell functions, i.e. in contrast to normal cells they either produce no or abnormal cell products. Some tumours can secrete hormones in a pathological way and thus cause tumour-related symptoms. We call such tumour-specific substances tumour markers. They serve the doctor for diagnosis and therapy control.
