Aspergillus is a mould genus with about 200 species worldwide. The fungus occurs in two morphological forms: anamorphic or teleomorphic. Its natural habitats are hay and compost. Aspergillus was first described in 1729 by the Italian priest and biologist P. Micheli. The microscopic image of the fungus reminded him of an aspergill (holy water feather duster) or a watering can head from which water just escapes. The occasionally used German name Gießkannenschimmel is also derived from this. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspergillus
