Asystole

An asystole indicates a lack of electrical action in the ECG. Typically, zero line fluctuations occur. An isoelectric zero line in the ECG without these zero line fluctuations should always give rise to the suspicion of a disconnection at the ECG electrodes or an incorrect choice of discharge at the ECG device. Remember: If an asystole is suspected, a "crosscheck" must be carried out (ECG discharge in an axis shifted by 90° to the output discharge) in order not to overlook fine ventricular fibrillation!
