Hypoproteinemia

reduced plasma protein levels in the blood (< 60 g/l). As relative hypoproteinemia due to plasma volume (e.g. in case of water overload, hyperhydration or reduced water excretion and after - large - infusions or in case of anuria); as absolute hyperproteinemia mainly due to in albumin, but also in γ globulin reduction (protein level < 50 g/l; reduced oncotic pressure) as a result of increased degradation (catabolic hyperproteinemia) or insufficient protein synthesis (anabolic hyperproteinemia); also due to protein losses, e.g. in exudative gastroenteropathy, nephrotic syndrome, extensive burns.
