In the small intestine, the digestive enzymes digest the food paste until only a few molecules are left of it. The transformation into a resorbable form is thus completed. The food remains up to 6 hours in the small intestine and gets thereby close contact with the digestive enzymes and the intestinal surface. The nutrients can now enter the blood via the mucous membrane of the small intestine. As in the stomach, rhythmic or peristaltic movements in the small intestine ensure the mixing and further transport of the edible rice.
