Osteopenia

If osteoporotic bone resorption falls below a certain threshold, we speak of osteopenia. If the bone mass decreases even further and falls below a lower second threshold, we call this osteoporosis. Osteopenia describes, so to speak, a kind of intermediate condition with a moderately reduced bone mass, which is no longer considered normal, but which has not yet sunk to such an extent that the criteria for osteoporosis are already fulfilled. Important: Osteopenia also shows an increased risk of bone fracture.
