Parenchyma
Parenchyma is the tissue specific to a particular organ that can functionally perform the organ-typical tasks. It is distinguished from connective and supporting tissue, which is responsible for the shape of the organs and mutual support. So we speak of parenchyma when we mean the tissues of e.g. glandular epithelium, muscle fibres, nerve cells, spermatozoa as well as the corresponding structures of the so-called parenchymatous organs such as liver, spleen, kidney, pancreas, adrenal glands, gonads, etc..
