Bile Secretion

One of the effects during the digestive process is that the sphincter muscle of the gallbladder relaxes and releases the opening in the duodenum. Now the muscles in the gallbladder and in the gall bladder duct are rhythmically tensed, triggered by the hormone cholecystokinin. These contractions lead to the bile temporarily stored in the gallbladder being actively transported out into the small intestine. To prevent the gallbladder from bursting due to too much fluid, pure water is extracted from the stored bile. As a result, the concentrations of the individual substances in the bile increase sharply.
