Onset of Effect

The hormone system reacts slowly compared to the nervous system. The blood flow velocity is decisive for the spread of a messenger substance with the blood stream. The fastest hormones such as adrenaline therefore need at least 5 - 10 seconds to trigger an effect. However, hormones usually react within 30 minutes to 3 hours, some effects, such as those of growth hormones, only become visible after months.
